Artist Statement by Cyndy Sieving

My life has never been without fabric, fibers or art . I began experimenting with a variety of fabrics and several types of figures. Experimentation with the various forms kept me intrigued.  The figures also allowed me to incorporate many other facets of fiber art into a single piece.  I have used: embroidery, beading, embellishments, macramé, painting, and leatherwork to accent my figures.

Primarily now I am interested in a building method that I have developed over trial and error.  It allows me to build the faces and bodies much like using clay.  Adding features one at a time, sewing, sculpting and shaping as I go.  All of my dragons are done with this method.  You will see other dolls I have used this method on as you stroll through the galleries.  The troll, the Hat and Hand bag tree, and Elves and Masquerading as Caterpillar in the Garden

May of 2003 I promoted and produced the Artistic Figure In Cloth convention.  Both Classes and exhibits were featured at AFIC.
