Jenny by Monika Shedden

Jenny is based on the legend of Jenny Green Teeth, a swamp witch. A story of Jenny was told to children in England to keep them away from rivers and lakes.

Monika has created this doll as a stump doll; in class you will enhance the basic body with strips of ribbons, fabrics and trims sewn together to form the artfully adorned body.   Learn to create fabric by sewing strips of torn fabrics and ribbons together.  Want to add a new challenge? Monika will teach you how to recycle with dryer sheets.  Learn to painted, beaded and add stitching to turn an every day dryer sheet into an extraordinary fabric.    Monika is a magician with a sewing machine, and will teach you to turn your sewing machine into a paint brush. You will create a large piece of free motion stitching on water soluble stabilizer and stiffened to create an interesting headpiece as well.

FABRIC SUPPLIES

1/8 of a yard of fabric for face and hands. I love southern belle muslin for needle sculpting.

1/4 of a yard of any muslin for the body.  Since the body will be covered up, anything you have lying around the house will do.

1/4 yd. of chiffon type of fabric.  We will be sewing strips of fabrics and yarns to this to wrap around the body, so it should be thin.

Lots of different yarns or trims, and strips  of chiffons for the skirt.

Mohair or yarn for the hair.

l yd. of water soluble stabilizer (solvy is the best)

Lots of different threads to match your colour theme for free motion on your machine.

At least 20 or 30 used dryer sheets.

You can bring a variety of acrylic paints to class, lumieres, paint sticks etc. to class or if you wish to paint your dryer sheets at home, you can go right ahead and experiment.  Remember if they don't turn out, there's always more laundry.  don't forget, they have to be used.

l or 2 yds. of 14 gauge wire and wire cutters.

Please don't stress out about the above list.  Don't spend hours running around looking for things.  I will bring lots of goodies from my own studio to share.  This will be  a super fun class.  We will turn a very simple doll into something spectacular.  Bring anything and everything you can think of to make your doll uniquely yours.

Looking forward to meeting all of you - Please feel free to e-mail me anytime if you have any questions about the supply list.  * I will bring some hand dyed face and hand fabric for everyone.
