What
was the inspiration behind the Challenge?
At Artistic Figures in
Cloth we invite the public in to see your art work. Many people travel a great
distant to see the exhibit. They come with anticipation and know what they are
coming to see, Art Dolls galore. We
also have a lot of new-bees as I like to call them.
These are mainly local Columbus residents. They love arts and craft shows
or are a fiber artist of one sort or another. They come to shop and check the
exhibit out. Most new visitors which
are
amazed. They had no idea such art
work could be achieved from fabric. Every
year that Artistic Figures in Cloth shows your art works off to the city, we
pick up more artist, and patrons every convention.
I started to think about the word doll
and how people are so hung up on that word.
Tell a person, "I make art dolls". Oh, they think she makes dolls, how sweet.
Tell someone you design human figures and they think, wow an artist.
How can we at AFIC push the concept of dolls into the minds of
our visitors to art. So I started
thinking, how does the world see art? What
do people expect to see when they come to an art show?
People expect to see most of the art work hanging up.
Well art doll makers can do that! This
is how It’s My Hang Up challenge
was born. It has a two fold meaning.
You make an art doll that hangs up and
we will break that old hang up about the word,
“dolls, versus art.” I
just know this challenge will be spectacular. I expect to see some very clever
ideas with this challenge. Go ahead and knock the judges socks off.
Use your imagination and create your masterpiece for the art exhibit.
