Cage Skirt Santos Doll-Leslie Molen

Once upon a time found in Portugal and Spain , Santos cage dolls were used in religious processions —frequently dressed in elaborate gowns and crowns. The cage skirt was traditionally used to display photographs and flowers to represent celebrations.

In this class you will create a doll with a wooden caged skirt and learn to overlay fabric onto a face form and make a head back. The upper cloth body will include an armature and jointed arms. Leslie will guide you as you design and create a unique corset and crown. The assemblage of the wooden skirt is only part of what makes your Santos Doll special.  You will incorporate your chosen theme into the cage skirt all with the use of fabrics, paints, stamps and antiquing medium.  She is 26” tall
