Leta Benedict- Alachua, Florida

The daughter of a NASA engineer, Leta grew up exploring one state after another with her younger brother.  "I have wonderful memories of my father teaching me everything from sewing to woodworking. He had me tying knots at one point; you never know when you may need a hammock or cast net. Where Dad left off, my aunts continued lessons in quilting, knitting and many other fiber related mediums. When I was ready to move on to something new my mother was always up for a trip to the local art store. Art stores are great places to find new toys."

After many years of sewing, sculpting and painting Old World Santa's, Leta was invited to join a local doll club, The Sand Doll R's. The club exposed her to many different styles and techniques that changed her views of cloth and its limitations. Noses and fingers started to appear on her dolls replacing the flat pancake dolls of the past. This allowed her love of fantasy to merge with a new-found love of doll making that resulted in a line of woodland fairies. She continues to refine her technique, giving her dolls the distinct look they have today. Her ever-growing business now includes limited edition dolls and a new line of patterns. When time allows she enjoys teaching and sharing her love of dolls.
